Ray Prather served as a panelist and moderator at the “Crowdfunding Charity: Navigating the Legal Landscape,” workshop at the ABA Section of Taxation and the Trust and Estate Law Division of the Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law 2018 Fall Tax Meeting.
Held in Atlanta, the event allowed the country’s leading attorneys and government officials to discuss the latest federal tax policies, initiatives, regulations, legislative forecasts and planning ideas. Attendees were able to earn CLE and ethics credits. Prather and other panelists discussed charitable crowdfunding and the federal tax and state law issues that arise for nonprofits, donors, and state regulators when nonprofits and their donors use new crowdfunding platforms, such as Crowdrise, Razoo, and Indiegogo, for charitable fundraising.
