Attorney Ray Prather spoke to the Chicago Estate Planning Council (CEPC) on “Modernizing the Law: Remote Notarizations and Electronic Wills in Illinois” at an August meeting of the CEPC. He provided a variety of details about the use of electronic signatures in Illinois. The state passed three laws this summer that will affect anyone who uses these signatures in their work. Among the information he shared was clarifying changes that are coming for notary publics, explaining the different processes for remotely notarizing documents, and providing an overview of the technology requirements for electronic wills.

A partner at Prather Ebner LLP, Ray advises clients on a wide array of issues related to administering and resolving challenges to estate plans. He represents individual and professional trustees, beneficiaries of trusts and estates, and tax-exempt organizations.
