Attorney Ray Prather authored an article in the February issue of the Illinois State Bar
Association (ISBA) Trusts and Estates Newsletter, titled “What’s the Deal with Electronic
Notaries in Illinois?” Ray provided an update on the status of changes proposed in Public Act
102-0160 that would permanently allow notary publics to perform remote notarial acts, allow
electronic notaries in Illinois and add education and journal requirements. The act has not
yet become effective, and Ray explains what has held up the process of approving electronic notaries in Illinois for the legal community.
A partner at Prather Ebner Wilson LLP, Ray advises clients on a wide array of issues
related to administering and resolving challenges to estate plans. He represents individual and
professional trustees, beneficiaries of trusts and estates, and tax-exempt organizations.
